Avison Shield Rules

RULES GOVERNING THE FRANK AVISON SHIELD COMPETITION

F1   The Frank Avison shield is a trophy offered for annual competition between the C.M.s of the Association, subject to a minimum entry of four teams. It is the property of the Association.  The winning C.M. shall hold the trophy for the season following that in which it was won.

F2   This tournament shall be controlled by the Association's Hon. Controller for Correspondence Chess.

F3   Any entry fee will be determined by the A.G.M.  Team lists must be received by the Controller by October 15th each year.

F4   Teams shall consist of five players.  C.M.s may enter more than one team, but no player may represent more than one team.

F5   Players must be Members of the Association.

F6   When there are more than nine entries, the Controller may form more than one division, in which case each division shall be of six teams, except possibly the lowest, which shall consist of no less than four teams and no more than nine teams.  The highest division will be the competition for the Frank Avison Shield.

F7   Winners of the second or lower division shall be eligible for promotion to the next higher division, in which case the lowest placed team of the next higher division will normally be relegated. The composition of the divisions will otherwise be at the discretion of the Controller.

F8   Ties for a trophy, or promotion or relegation positions will be resolved by a method to be determined by the Controller prior to the start of the Competition.

F9   Play shall be governed by Rules D6 to D8 of the C.S. Kitchin Memorial Tournament.
