Grading Matters (Contents)

Grading is perhaps one of the most contentious aspects of chess organisation at "grass roots" level.  In most team competitions players are required or expected to be nominated in order of strength.  Most amateur chess congresses have entry to most of their sections limited to players below a certain specified playing strength.  A number of other competitions, team and individual, rely to some extent on the existence of a means of quantifying players' relative playing strengths.
