RULES
GOVERNING THE C.S. KITCHIN MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
D1 The C.S. Kitchin Memorial Prize is presented
for annual competition in a Correspondence Chess Tournament restricted to
members of C.M. organisations (or Associations) and affiliated individual
members of the Association.
D2 This tournament shall be controlled by the
Association's Hon. Controller for Correspondence Chess.
D3 There is no entrance fee, but entries must be submitted
to the Controller not later than October 15th each year.
D4 No winner of the Memorial Prize shall be
eligible to compete during the seven years following that in which the prize
was won.
D5 The tournament is restricted to eight players;
if necessary the Controller shall select the eight players deemed the strongest
from the total entry. Each player shall
have one game with each other competitor.
D6 All games shall be played in accordance with
the British Chess Federation's Rules for Correspondence Play.
D7 The closing date for play shall be August 31st
in each season. The positions at the
close of play in any unfinished game, the result of which cannot be agreed by
the players concerned, must be sent to the Controller not later than September
15th in the same season for adjudication.
a) The
position in each unfinished game must be submitted by both players, stating
their claims. If only one player
complies with this requirement then the claim of that player shall be allowed
without adjudication. If both players
comply the position shall be referred to an approved adjudicator (but not if
both players claim a draw in which case that shall be the result).
b) The
names of the opposing players and the player of the white pieces shall be indicated.
c) The
position shall be recorded on a diagram from the White side of the board, and
shall show the white pieces in capital letters and the black pieces in ringed
capital letters; the number of pieces
on each side shall be denoted in figures.
d) The
player having the move shall be clearly indicated. If it cannot be inferred from the diagram, it must be stated
whether castling by either player is possible, and/or whether an en passant
capture is possible.
e) In
the event of a claim not complying with these Rules the Controller will
discover and submit for adjudication the correct position, and the player not
complying with these Rules will be debited with a fine, determined from time to
time by the A.G.M. If the Controller is unable to determine the correct
position, the relevant game will be scored a loss for both players.
D8 If a player disagrees with the result of an
adjudication, an appeal may be made against the award provided that:
a) the
appeal is lodged with the Controller within fourteen days of receipt of the
original awards;
b) the
appeal is supported by a reasoned line or lines of analysis;
c) the
opposing player is informed at the time the appeal is lodged.
D9 The Memorial Prize shall not be divided and in
the event of a tie between two or more competitors there shall be a play-off in
the following season, in accordance with these Rules, to determine the absolute
winner.
D10 The value of the Memorial Prize will be
determined from time to time at the A.G.M.
D11 The accepted entries and the results of the
tournament shall be published each year, and a record kept of all winners of
the tournament.
