Laws of Chess

The international rules of the game, known more properly as the "Laws of Chess", are reviewed from time to time by the Rules Committee of the Fédération International des Échecs (FIDÉ), subject to subsequent approval by the FIDÉ Congress.  The latest revision was approved by the 71st FIDE Congress at Istanbul in November 2000, coming into force on 1 July 2001.

The Laws of Chess and Appendix thereto are usually to be found in the current of a recent issue of the British Chess Federation's Year Book, but are also to be found from the FIDÉ web site at the following addresses:

Laws:           http://handbook.fide.com/handbook.cgi?level=E&level=E1&level=01&

Appendix:    http://handbook.fide.com/handbook.cgi?level=E&level=E1&level=02&
