In conversation a chess
player was once asked something like "You know what the Bloggs Trophy
looks like, don't you?" to which the reply was something like "Well,
I've seen it from a distance."
He meant of course that he'd seen it presented to other people at AGMs
but was never likely to get very close to it himself.
