Introduction

A Yorkshire Chess Association, in one guise or another, has been organising chess in Yorkshire since 1841.  Its most important internal activity is running Saturday League competitions contested by clubs from different parts of the county.  It holds individual championships and fields teams in inter-county competitions.  Other activities encompass junior chess and correspondence chess, but the YCA as such does not at present run any congresses.  The YCA's activities are complemented by those of various independent local chess organisations and locally run chess congresses.  The YCA operates a grading system combining results from all organisations in its territory.  Member organisations are mostly chess clubs, but some are local associations.  The officers of the YCA are elected annually at the AGM.
